The Lions Lose Again!

Piper and I went down to Ford Field to see The Detroit Lions take on the Washington Redskins.  We went with a couple of friends of ours, Bob and Melissa.  We did some tailgating in the parking lot before the game and had a great time.  The Lions did what we expected and ended up losing but at least they kept the game close.

In even bigger news, Piper continued her dominance of the radio station give aways and actually won tickets to a Madonna concert on November 18th at Ford Field.  A blog post and pictures will definitely be following that trip.

Finally, if you haven’t heard I’ve started a small side photography business.  I’ve had a few customers this fall and I just launched a new website.  If you get a moment please take a look and give me some feedback.

With the weather turning cold I will be focusing my efforts on building a portfolio for Family Portraits.  I don’t have a studio setup for Family Portraits so I’m looking for Family’s that are interested in location Family Portrait session.  Either at their home or at an outdoor location.  Because I’m building my portfolio, the session would be free of charge with a discount on print prices.  If you have anyone in mind please let me know or feel free to direct them to my website.  The website is linked below and I will also include a hot link on the sidebar of this site.

Hunter Goes to Zoo Boo

This year we don’t get to be home on the actual date of October 31st so we wanted to get Hunter out trick-or-treating if possible.  We discovered Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek puts on a Zoo Boo every year, where they open up the Zoo to young children.  Not only do they offer a trick-or-treat trail but many other things like face painting, carousel rides, animals to see and even a small carnival.  We headed out a couple nights ago after work and Hunter really seemd to like it!  He loved watching the animals and especially liked the carousel ride.  We had a great time.

Pumpkins! One of his favorite words!

He showed no fear of the Peacocks and even gave chase.

Stopping at every animal pen to take a look.

The carousel was a big hit. He insisted on a second ride.

More animal watching. He had to be dragged away each time.

Gearing up for Halloween

Piper loves Halloween and this year is proving to be even more fun with Hunter in the mix.  Sunday we went out to let him choose his own pumpkin.  He wasn’t in the greatest of spirits but we all had a nice time nonetheless.  We went to “Gene The Pumpkin Man” in Kalamazoo which is a local legend.  He has absolutely everything painted orange.  Including his barns, the inside of his house, his tractors and even his two pumpkin orange Cadillacs.  This is his 51st year of selling pumpkins in Kalamazoo and the surrounding areas.

Later in the week we spotted a couple of wild cows out in the pasture and we just had to take a picture.

Take care . . . .

Chili Cookoff Winner Announced!

Things have been quiet around here lately.  Piper didn’t participate in the 5K walk for breast cancer because not only was she sick but Kalee, Hunter and myself weren’t feeling very well.  Everyone seems to be better now but Kalee was hit the hardest and seems to be the slowest to recover.

Nick has whittled down his pack of girls to just one, Kendra, and has been spending quite a bit of time with her lately.  He’s still supporting his good friend Kalee in the upcoming Miss Bloomingdale and spends every Sunday afternoon practicing how to walk, dance and be an escort.

The big news around here lately has been how Piper was the winner of a Chili cookoff.  At her workplace they decided to hold a chili cookoff.  Several people brought in their version of Chili.  It was done banquet style and throughout the day people could sample all the offerings and were then asked to cast a vote for what they thought were the best three chilis.  The competition was fierce and close but at the end Piper won first place with 27 points, nudging out second place by just 2 points.

This is a great example of how a good husband can be such an assest to improving your cooking.  I’ve worked very hard over the years, carefully giving Piper expert advice on every meal she’s created so that the next meal she cooked would be just a little bit better than the last one.

Congratulations Piper! A good lesson learned……

Nick Knocks ‘em Dead at Pretty Lake with his Speech

Pretty Lake Vaction Camp called last Sunday and asked Nick to give a speech for their Board of Directors and members of the community that had been invited to a promotional dinner.  Nick has been involved with Pretty Lake Camp since he was in sixth grade.  He started as a camper, completed their two year Leadership in Training program and just finished up their two year Counselor in Training program.  Pretty Lake has existed for almost 100 years now and is funded completely by donations from the community.  This summer the camp hosted over 700 campers, leaders in training and counselors in training.  The camp choose just two children to speak at the dinner, Nick being one of them.  Needless to say, we were pretty excited.  Below you’ll see shots of Nick during his speech, with the President of Pretty Lake and the mayor of Kalamazoo.

Casanova’s Weekend

Casanova (Nick) just finished up a whirlwind weekend.  Friday he had a homecoming to attend in Paw Paw. He was short on time because he had a football game, then the dance and then finally a bonfire afterwards.  Casanova and his date, Kendra, had a great time or so they say.  Kendra has a twin sister and happens to be a daughter of one of my co-workers.

Saturday night yet another homecoming dance, in a different town with a different girl.  His date, Liza actually used to attend the same daycare with Nick for years.  This Homecoming was in Hastings and they had a nice time.

Sunday, he spent the entire day practicing how to dance and be an escort with yet another girl.  Yes, you guessed it, this girl is from a different town (Bloomingdale) as well.  He will be her escort in the upcoming Miss Bloomingdale pageant.

Piper and Hunter have a 5K walk for breast cancer coming up this Saturday in Kalamazoo.  I’ll be out to support them as well.

This is a picture of Casanova and his date from Saturday’s Homecoming.

It’s School Picture Time

It is school picture time at Bloomingdale High School.  Every year Kalee is pretty underwhelmed by the results that the school gives so she asked if I would do her picture this year.  What the heck, I thought I’d give it a try.  We were both pretty happy with results.  Of course, Piper will probably have some wallets with her the next time we see you guys.  If you haven’t subscribed to the blog, make sure you do.
